England’s fine and mighty have stepped forward to compete for this year’s Enjoy England Awards for Excellence
These prestigious awards currently in their 22nd year celebrate the very best the country has to offer.
Amongst the shortlisted winners for 2011 are the former home of W H Smith, a converted chapel, a café offering foraged food, lodges made of reclaimed telegraph poles, an eco pub offering carbon neutral vodka, an English royal horse racing event, a surfing food trail and some big sheep!
The level of entry has once again been outstanding with exceptional strides being made in the sustainable tourism sector where all four finalists for the Sustainable Tourism Award demonstrated that green issues are a fundamental basis for their working ethos. The finalists include, an eco pub in Northumberland, which with many green accolades already over its door, also has the claim to fame of being the last electric car charging point before reaching the north England border. The RED Hotels group in Cornwall manages to combine luxury, tranquillity and sustainability with a strong local and European buying policy, with the ethos that luxury does not have to cost the planet.
